DIY Chevron Stripes: Laundry Bin

I decided to give this wooden laundry bin a face lift.

I wanted Chevron stripes but didn't know where to go from there, the paneling on the front of the bin was throwing me off.

After a few Facebook fan suggestions I FINALLY came to a conclusion.

I repainted the entire bin white with Valspar Spray Paint.

I decided to use the front panel as my guide for sizing the stripes.

The panels are 2" apart.  So I created a stencil with the point of the stripe being the 2" width I needed.

I chose to make each stripe 2 3/4" tall for the front panel.
But for the lid the stripes are 5 1/2" tall.

On a piece of construction paper I plotted the points and connected the dots.

My end result:

This will be used for the lid. So to get started I cut the stencil out and traced it directly onto the lid...

After tracing and taping the lid now looks like this:

Make sure the tape is sealed with no bubbles and paint over the lid with your primary color. (I chose to keep the stripes white and the rest will be turquoise).

Next, I used the front panels as my guide for the stripes. Still using 2 3/4" and 5 1/2" marks up the panels and meeting each diagonal between the panels making each stripe 2" wide. See finished tape picture below..

I painted several thin coats of paint and while still a little sticky I removed the tape.

I painted the entire bin turquoise and the end result...

I can't wait to add this to my laundry room decor!
